Although the Lake Maggiore lake towns are known for its mild climate even during summers, autumn has a different kind of charm and climate which invites visitors to bask in the beautiful autumn sun and take a walk along the beautiful lakefront trampling on the bright, golden leaves. But you should also come to Lake Maggiore during autumn to enjoy the destination at your own pace when it is less crowded and the prices are suitable.
Plenty of events and festivals to keep you entertained: The peak season may have gone, but not for those festivals and events which make Lake Maggiore an amazing tourist destination during autumn. In the beautiful weather of autumn, many Lake Maggiore towns host a number of events and festivals, most importantly the gastronomic festivals. Italian gastronomy is among the most important criteria which attract tourists to Italian shores. You get plenty of opportunities to enjoy these scrumptious native dishes at Lake Maggiore during this season. A long list of festivals dedicated to different food items such as cakes, chocolates, fresh produce, nuts etc. is lined up from September to November at various lake towns. Other gastronomy events include The Path of Taste which is organised at Val Grande National Park with a number of participating restaurants.
You can’t miss the picturesque lake settings: Lake Maggiore, which is famed for lush gardens and the beautiful landscape, is a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate during autumn. The gardens on Lake Maggiore like the one of Villa Taranto or Isola Bella is renowned all over the world for their horticultural and botanical splendour. The beautiful promenades along the lakefront, on the other hand, are often adorned with bright coloured leaves shining in the autumn sun. These promenades which overlook the beautiful lake and the mountain peaks in the background are an incredible place to go for a walk. Also, go ahead and take a ferry ride on the lake to explore the stunning landscape around the lake. The cable cars operating around the lake which take you to greater altitude on Monte Rosa offer incredible vantage points to enjoy the settings.
Explore the lake towns and villages: The beautiful lake towns on the shore of Lake Maggiore are known for their peaceful atmosphere and picturesque settings. These lake towns are also known for the various sites of historical and archaeological importance. The numerous colourful patrician houses, churches and castles offer tourists plenty of places to visit and learn about the history of the region. Some of the major towns, such as Stresa, Verbania, Locarno and Arona offer good opportunities to shop and dine in the pleasant climate of autumn. Villages, on the other hand, offer a glimpse of native lifestyle. The best way to explore these villages is on a biking or hiking trail. But they are also accessible by easier means of transport such as ferry, bus, train and cable car services. The lack of heavy traffic means it is easy to navigate around these places.
