Forte Dei Marmi has been a tourist hotspot for the Italian rich and famous since the 18th century. Nowadays it is highly likely to meet some international celebrities and famous football players here. The long beach and the coastal weather have made it a perfect getaway from the city life. No wonder tourists come here to relax. To make the most out of your vacation at this Tuscan town, there are several things that you can do in Forte dei Marmi.

The best way to go around Forte Dei Marmi is to rent a bike. Secure bike paths and low traffic allow you to conveniently explore even the small corners of the town. If you want to try something new, go roller skating along the promenade in the evening.

Forte dei Marmi’s beach is definitely leading the list of things to do here. The calm sea surrounded by golden sand embedded with colorful huts and umbrellas is a picturesque spot to relax. You can either take a dip in the sea or visit one of the many bathing establishments.

This town is a shopaholic’s paradise as it is home to several markets. Italy’s most exclusive street market is hosted at the Piazza Guglielmo Marconi every Wednesday morning from 8.00 am to 2:30 pm. It is also open on Sundays during the summer. Feel free to bargain here and if you are good, you might catch some really good deals. Another famous market here is the Antique market in Piazza Dante which is hosted every second Saturday and Sunday of the month, with traders coming from all over Italy. Expect to find sculptures, art, collectibles, jewellery, furniture, books and artefacts. Besides the markets, there are also a number of boutique shops lined along the road adjacent to the beach where you can shop to your heart’s content. The roads are also lined with quaint pavement cafes where you can sip on a cup of your favourite coffee.

Once you’re done shopping and you still have some time to spare, dive into the history of this town through its architecture. Forte Dei Marmi was built as a fortress to store marble and protect the area from outside attacks. The Fort, which is now a tourist attraction, is located in the city center and houses the local post office and the Museum of Satire and Caricatures. This museum is a unique experience and a must-do for everyone who visits Forte dei Marmi. Strolling around the museum you will find a collection of satires and caricatures from across the world. A video library and a multimedia archive  also belong to the museum. Other places worth visiting are the Sant’Ermete Church and the Villa Bertelli, which hosts many shows, concerts and exhibitions. The pier, which was originally used to load ships with marble is now an ideal place to admire the sunset.

If you are looking for some action and exciting adventures during your holiday, Forte dei Marmi is the right place for you. Try some thrilling activities such as surfing, rock climbing, scuba diving, cave exploring and hiking.

Spice up your nightlife adventure in Forte dei Marmi with a hint of history. La Capannina di Franceschi is the oldest nightclub in the region and at the same time the oldest restaurant in the world having opened in 1929.  It is very interesting that the name hasn’t changed since the start when it was an old shed on the beach serving drinks. Nowadays, La Capannina di Franceschi is a big trend and known for its famous and influential guests such as JFK who once took a drink here.

Overall, Forte Dei Marmi is an ideal summer holiday destination no matter what kind of a holiday you prefer - this town has something for everyone.
