The town has a rich history and is often referred to as "Little Barcelona" due to its blend of Italian and Catalan cultures. The medieval heart of Alghero, also known as the "Barceloneta", is worth visiting to explore Cattedrale dell’ Immacolata Concezione (a 25-minute walk/6-minute drive) and is surrounded by 14th-century city walls that offer panoramic views of the sea and surrounding areas. The local beach, Lido di Alghero (a 30-minute walk / 7-minute drive), is perfect for sunbathing, swimming in the crystal clear, shallow waters and water sports, such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and paddle surfing.
