Location This apartment is right in the centre of Catania, a city steeped in history. It is just 300 meters from the ancient Roman amphitheatre and a 12-minute walk from the Piazza del Duomo. The Duomo di Catania is a majestic Norman cathedral, and hidden behind it you will find the daily fish market for the freshest local catch, plus good vegetables, fruit and meats. The city is well-known for its delicious food with many local restaurants serving Sicilian specialities and wonderful seafood. Unique to Catania are the “cioscu”, little kiosks all over the city serving refreshments in the hot summer months. The most famous are in the Piazza Umberto (7 minutes walk). If you need to get out of the city for a day, the Park of Etna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, (55 min drive) offers excellent hiking all year round, including hikes up to the peak of the volcano. Or head to the beach and La Playa di Catania (45 minutes walk). This long, wide sandy beach has beach clubs, snack bars, a water park for children and clean, blue sea.
