Vogorno is at the start of the Val Verzasca, formed by the crystal clear Verzasca River. For the brave, a dip in the river is a chilly but bracing experience. Otherwise, there are many stunning hiking and mountain bike trails in the valley. Vogorno might feel a million miles away from the modern world but the city of Locarno is only 20 minutes away. On the shore of Lake Maggiore, visitors to Locarno can enjoy La Dolce Vita, with a Swiss touch. The Thursday market in Piazza Grande combines a farmers market, where you can pick up the best local produce, with stalls selling regional crafts and second-hand clothes, books etc. Bellinzona (30 minutes) is famous for its 3 medieval castles, which make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a great day trip. Bellinzona’s weekly market (Saturday morning) is one of the best in the region. The closest international airports are in Italy. Milan Malpensa is 1 hour 35 minutes away by car and Linate Airport is 1 hour and 50 minutes.
